The National Zoo in DC

Today we took Jase to the National Zoo in DC. Jase had been looking forward to this trip all week and it was worth all the anticipation. We couldn't had asked for better weather, either. We started our trip out looking at the lions and tigers and monkeys. Then we headed over to the reptile house. I think Jase had more fun there than anywhere. It wasn't crowed inside so he was able to run around more freely and had his face pressed up against the glass of every aquarium. His favorite animals in there were the turtles. There was one tank full of a bunch of small underwater turtles and they kept swimming right up to him. There was also a tank of these huge tortoises that were over 50 years old.

When we exited the reptile house we had to go through this bug/butterfly room. Jase was a little overwhelmed of the huge, fake bug hanging from the ceiling. I think he thought it was real.

In the invertebrate house there was beautiful coral and salt water tanks. Jase was very confused, though, cause he was wanting to know where the animals were. He didn't know that they where the living thing we were supposed to be looking at.

After that we sat down for lunch at the Mane Restaurant where he pigged out on his animal shaped chicken nuggets, making sure he ate the heads off of all of them before he ate the bodies. Such a boy!

After lunch we went to see the orangutans. A zoo employee had a model of an orangutan foot and told Jase all about how they use their feet to grip on to trees and swing around.

One of the most entertaining animals was the seal. He was perched on a rock and looked to be tickling himself all over with his tail.

Most of the animals were out and about and Jase had no problem seeing them. The bald eagle, however, was hard for him to see. And it really is a shame cause they were just beautiful!

Outside of the rest room was a really cool mural. Jase loved the "fish dolphins"! He was so excited cause he got to touch them! He's is so silly!

We ended the trip in the Safari with the zebras and cheetah. It was funny cause one minute he was calling the zebras "zebras" and the next minute he was calling them "black and white horses."

Even after we got home all he wanted to do was look at the zoo map. He even chased Henny around the house telling her all the animals he saw. And when I put him to bed he wanted to say a special prayer for the zoo animals.
