Blizzard of 2010

Over 2o inches later, the snow finally stopped falling. Jase was eager as can be to get out and play in it. About half way thought he storm we got a lot of sleet. That layer of sleet made it so he could actually walk through the snow without falling all the way through. He had a blast!

He even ate his first icicle (Rob didn't tell me till after Jase was sucking it that it came off the bottom of my car...oh well, he enjoyed it and he didn't get sick! Ha Ha!)

He had a blast playing on his swing set. Even though it has a roof, it filled up with snow, too! And of course, as soon as he got up there and saw the snow covered slide, he begged us to get him some Monster trucks.

After sending the trucks down the slide several times, two fell off and went missing. They sunk all the way down and we couldn't find them anywhere. Guess we'll have to wait for the big thaw before they reappear!

Finally, we built a HUGE snowman! Jase was excited that the snowman was as big as his Daddy!

ABC's

Jase has been mastering his letters, lately, and today he reached a new level. He put all his letters in order. He would do a few letters, and when he would get stuck, he would sing the ABC song to figure out what letter went next, would find the letter, and put it in the row. He was so proud when he got to the "Z" he was beaming!

Can You Tell I Cleaned???

Being snowed in all day, I figured I would do some cleaning. Jase is very good about cleaning up after himself and putting things where they belong, but toys do sometimes make it in the wrong bin and books and puzzles don't always stay as neat as mommy likes. So, I spent quite some time in his room going through every bin, throwing stuff out that wasn't any good, getting rid of things he no longer played with, putt his ABC books in alphabetical order, stacked all his puzzles up nice, and the whole time wiping every surface down. When I was finished I sent Jase into his room so I could tackle the living room. Within minutes, this is what he did:
He was using the shelves as houses for his cars. The only thing that stopped me from getting mad was I remember when me and my brother would do the same thing. We would set up tissue boxes to be houses or use the end tables as mansions. We would have building blocks and dominoes set up making streets throughout the entire family room. It kept him entertained for a while, too.

Giddy Up!

Jase says: "Mommy, look at us! I'm a cowboy and Henny is my horse. "

He then mounts poor little Henny, who is just laying on the couch, minding her own business and trying to rest. He starts jumping up and down on her like he is on a bucking bronco, swinging his invisible rodeo rope shouting:

"Giddy up, Henny! Hee Haw!"

He Knows the Letter "C"

We've been working on our letters lately, and you'd be surprised the places you can find them: a doughnut will look like an "O", a smear of ranch on the table will look like an "L", or a piece of string on the couch will look like an "S". Today, Jase found the letter "C" in the darnedest place. He had just used the bathroom and was leaning over the toilet to flush his poops when he started shouting, "Mommy! My poop made a 'C'!" Sure enough, his little poop was curled up in a perfect "C". He went running into the bedroom to share his discovery with his dad. I heard him saying, "Daddy, my poop made a 'C'. It was a poopsie!" It's moments like these when you don't know whether to give him high fives for knowing his letters or laugh hysterically at his revelations!

Pre-School!?!?!

Whelp...we did it! After much hemming and hawing, we registered Jase in pre-k. AHHH...I can't belive my little baby is old enough to even be talking about this!!!!

His birthday falls at a really bad time of year for starting school. In our county, you must be 4 before the first day of school to register for the public pre-k program. He is about 2 weeks shy. So he was already going to be starting school at a very old age (because 2 weeks shy of 5 is oh, so old, right?). The dilemma was...not everyone makes it into the public pre-k program. They take income and developmental level into account. Children who "need" to be in the program are granted the first spots, and then it is on a first come, first serve basis. If Jase didn't get in, he wouldn't be starting school until 2 weeks shy of his 6th birthday and he would be jumping right into the all-day kindergarten class. This didn't sit right with me, so we started looking into other options. I found this really great pre-school program at The United Methodist Church in La Plata called Blessed Lambs. They offer a 2-day-a-week 3-year-old program and a 3-day-a-week 4-year-old program. He will begin the 3-year-old program in September! Then, we can reserve a spot for him in the 4-year old program, so if he doesn't make it into the public school he will have still have a spot at this school.

Right now he isn't too excited about it. Whenever we mention school he pouts and says, "I don't love school." When we return all the paper work they said we can bring him to look around and I have a feeling he will have a whole new attitude after he sees how much fun it is going to be!

Another Snow Storm

It snowed once again; this time accumulating a foot of snow. It snowed heavy all day Saturday so we didn't get to go play in the white stuff till today. Luckily, Jozi got in the neighborhood just before we started bundling up so Jase had a friend to play with. When we first went out, I tried to get Jase to actually play IN the snow. He likes to just run around on the shoveled drive and walk way. So I dropped him down in the middle of the yard...

and he got stuck!

Once he got back on the driveway, he plopped down on his belly and starting sliding himself around on the ice.

Then, Rob had the bright idea to pull the kids around in the wagon. They had fun, but let me tell you, a sled would have been much easier. It was a work out and a half pulling that thing through all the snow!

Then...tragedy struck!
The driver was taking a curve a little too fast and the little Radio Flyer flipped over, throwing both of the kids from the vehicle.

Jozi walked away from the accident un-harmed. Jase, landed face first in the snow and ended up with snow stuffed up in between his face and his glasses. I know its mean...but it really was quite hilarious!

But the two wasted no time putting the wagon back on all fours and where soon back in the wagon going for another spin!

After awhile, Jozi started getting cold and went inside, and me and Jase decided to make some snow angles. He liked making the angles, but got a little crazy flaring his hands around and ended up throwing snow in his face.

After that, he was ready to go in for some hot cocoa, too.
